Milk and Honey Book Review
5/5 stars This book... I was so happy my boss recommended it to me. It took me a second to read it because, when we first got the book, I was curious so i flipped to the first page with had a woman with her legs spread and a poem between her legs. I wasnt ready... We laughed it off and just kind of put the book back on the shelf.
Within a week, all of our copies of that book was sold. My boss, Chelsea, loves the book. She kept telling me all about it and quickly we sold out. How she had ordered more. By then, I had to read it! So i picked up the book today and tore my way through it. Not because i wanted to get it over with or because i wanted to skim past the pornographic drawings that sometimes happened. but because it was SO GOOD!
Rupi Kaur told the story in three parts, each being written in prose form. It read like a short story. One of her father being a man she couldn't trust, the first man to hurt her, to one being about love and feeling like she had finally found something that was special. That made her special. The last part was about heartbreak and rebuilding yourself.
I found a part of myself in each of the parts. The artwork was beautiful. kind of like the one lined drawings, where the artist never lifts his pencil from the paper, yet can still draw something spectacular. A lot of the poems in there moved me. I am so grateful to Chelsea for recommending this book to me. Now, I most definitely recommend this book to you. All of you. Just beware of the Mature content in some of the poems.
