Coraline Book Review
"Everybody likes games..."
Coraline, is the story of a young girl who movies into a flat that is part of what is called the "Pink House", consisting of several flats in this old styled home. She is bored,as her parents just type along on their key boards, not paying much attention to her at all. Coraline finds a small door in one room, after counting all the doors, windows, and all things blue in the house. Mysteriously, this door is locked. After finding the key, she crawls through the door, which takes her to a world much like her own, but BETTER. Soon, the young girl comes to find out that perfection isn't at all what she wants anymore. Perfection is dangerous and comes at a price.
I have seen the movie THOUSANDS of times. It is honestly one of my favorite movies to watch around Halloween time. So I figured, why not read the book? I'm bound to like it right. The book itself is a masterpiece. I feel like the movie has to make a story, focusing on characters like Whybie and his Grandmother with her lost sister. The book focuses more on the world the Beldam or "Other Mother" had created for Coraline, in hopes that she will stay with her forever, so she can feast on her, I mean love her.
The characters are beautifully made. I caught myself saying "Well that didn't happen in the movie" quite a bit. (Never thought I'd say that) I also found myself saying the famous lines that come to mind when reading this book. Honestly, it only took a few hours to read this thirteen chapter book, Mainly because I was at work at the movie theatre while I was doing it, but it was still good. I flew through it. Definitely a good book to read if you just want goosebumps or as my friend calls them "chilly-bumps". Coraline, both the movie and now the book, will forever be one of the story's I read/watch during Halloween.
