Glass Sword Book Review

`3/5 Stars Last year when I read The Red Queen.. Or maybe a little over a year ago) I really enjoyed the book. I was smitten with the world Victoria created. A small little Red girl, different from the rest. Possessing powers she didn't even know she had. I was so ready for the next book. So ready. Now I know it has been out for a while and I am just now reading it. I get it. Sometimes life happens.

I have to applaud Aveyard for keeping up with the story. Glass Sword picks up right where the first one left off. There isn't a time gap, which is amazing. I read this book between Audiobook and hard copy.

MAN did I miss these characters. I missed Mare and Cal.. Even Farley. Maven is a monster. What he is doing is wrong and we know he is just doing it to get a reaction out of Mare. I also have to say I loved the twists and turns through the book now that I have completed it. While at some parts it felt laggy, I was still drawn into the story. (Pretty sure I read this over a span of 3 days).

SPOILER SECTION: AVERT YOUR EYES IF YOU HAVENT READ THE BOOK!!!!!!

The book starts of in a war which immediately draws you into the book. Maven, the little prick, is very active in the book throughout. Which I cant say that I expected. Since he seems to prefer others do his work for him, I was really shocked with the amount of times he kept appearing. Cal and Mare's relationship seems strained throughout. I mean, we don't know which side Cal really plays for. While he fights with Mare and her brother, isn't he just trying to end the war to gain what is rightfully his back-- The crown?

I want to know more about Farley and her relationship with her father, as rocky as it may seem. The Colonel is a very frustrating character but I have to say Kilorn disturbed me more. I wanted to take him by the shoulders and shake him when he professed his love for Mare. Like "Boy, we do not have time for this! We don't need a love square between you, Mare, and the two princes'. Maven and Cal. We don't need that. Save the damn innocents and the newbloods. Worry about the shit later. Got it?"

Kilorn was trying to be all high and mighty, trying to be tough when really he's just a jealous little boy chasing after the girl he loves while she is focused on winning a war. He has a crappy attitude but he is still a loyal friend. When they were trying to save the newbloods, I got so angry with the group with how they could just abandon each other. I get you have a bigger cause but if Shade would have died when you left him, what good would that do? You'd be down in numbers and you would lose your brother, friend, and a man with great power! Come on guys! You're smarter than this!

Cameron. Omg... Cameron. I completely understand your frustration and your point. But GIRL. YOU NEED TO LEARN HOW TO TALK TO PEOPLE! I wanted to slap the crap out of her. Beat some sense into the 15year old(?) My momma would have beat my ass if I EVER talked to someone like that. Even if we were in a war. No, take your young teenage butt and go sit down somewhere. Nobody has time to be dealing with that attitude.

I was so overwhelmed at the prison scene. SHADE!!! my heart shattered into a million pieces. We had just got him back, he was the older brother that was missed so much, only to lose him again. Ugh! BUUUTTT... Queen Elara gets exactly what she deserves. I was so happy when Mare killed her. Serves her right. Don't mess with the Lightning Girl (ooooohhhhhh... I know I'm weird haha... embrace it!).

After all this time, Mare sacrifices herself to Maven. WHAT?!?! After all you just went through?! Your brother died and now you want to sacrifice yourself. (Reading this, picture, from the Lion King II, Pumbaa holding Timon's tail while he tries to go after Kovu ((?)) saying "Let me at 'em! Let me at em!" That is exactly how I felt by the end of the book)

I still think the first was way better but I was still very interesting. I cant wait to get my hands on King's Cage (hopefully before next year). Until then HAPPY READING!

If I were a newblood, what power would I want....? Maybe to see the future, manipulate time. Or maybe be like Cameron and just take everyone's gift away. That was pretty awesome!
